Perfect Remains by Helen Fields
Hi Everyone, my next review is a step away from romance and into a thriller. I love all types of reads and this is my first of Helen Fields. I can safely say this is the first and won't be the last!
On a remote Highland mountain, the body of Elaine Buxton is burning. All that will be left to identify the respected lawyer are her teeth and a fragment of clothing.
In the concealed back room of a house in Edinburgh, the real Elaine Buxton screams into the darkness…
Detective Inspector Luc Callanach has barely set foot in his new office when Elaine’s missing persons case is escalated to a murder investigation. Having left behind a promising career at Interpol, he’s eager to prove himself to his new team. But Edinburgh, he discovers, is a long way from Lyon, and Elaine’s killer has covered his tracks with meticulous care.
It’s not long before another successful woman is abducted from her doorstep, and Callanach finds himself in a race against the clock. Or so he believes … The real fate of the women will prove more twisted than he could have ever imagined.

I have to admit that I love a good thriller but I am so picky when I am choosing my next read. I was not disappointed!
There are a few books in this series and Perfect Remains is the first. You don't have to read them in any particular order but I do like to start at the beginning and Fields introduced the characters I know I am going to grow to love.
Luc is thrown in at the deep end when he is transferred to a new office in Edinburgh and leaving France and everything else behind him. He's a loner and doesn't feel the need to have friends but persistent DI Ava Turner is the breath of fresh air that he needs. I liked the dynamic between the pair and I can't wait to see how their relationship develops.
The story is captivating and had me on the edge of my seat wanting to read more. I liked how Fields gave us insight into the mind of the killer. The dynamic of different perspectives was compelling. This crime novel was well written and has definitely got me wanting to read more.
I have stated that I want to review books that don't have many reviews but I will make some exceptions. I simply felt that I had to share how great this book is.
